Relay For Life this weekend

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Washington County will be Friday and Saturday at Fairgrounds Park in Hagerstown.

Opening ceremonies begin at 7 p.m. Friday and the event continues with activities, music, food and games throughout the night and early hours on Saturday.

The relay takes place overnight as a reminder that cancer does not sleep.

The Relay For Life committee and participants make every effort to balance the entertainment level throughout the night while still respecting the residents of the surrounding areas.

Vacation Bible School to be held in July

Longmeadow Church of the Brethren will hold its Vacation Bible School July 6 to 8 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.


The theme is "Bible Heroes - David & Joshua."

The school is for those ages 3 through eighth grade.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 77 held a graduation ceremony June 8. Eileen Renwick received her diploma for reaching and maintaining her KOPS (Keeping Off Pounds Sensibly) status.

Sixteen KOPS from the group each gave a rose to a TOPS member they want to encourage for the coming year. Bobby Hays provided music for the occasion.

Monthly awards for May were presented. Diane Keely became the newest KOPS member.

TOPS(Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 446 members had a net loss for the June 10 meeting.

Janet gave out awards to members. Judy G. was chosen to be the chapter angel.

Ice cream social

John Wesley United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream social and ministry fair June 28 at 11 a.m. following the 10 a.m. worship service.

This is an opportunity to enjoy ice cream and fellowship, and learn more about the many activities and ministries at the church.

All are welcome.

Asbury United Methodist Church and John Wesley United Methodist Church are jointly sponsoring Fiesta Bible School Thursday, July 30, and Friday, July 31, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Texas Roadhouse restaurant, at 120 S. Edgewood Drive in Hagerstown, will be donate10 percent of the proceeds from each meal sold today through Thursday to the Humane Society of Washington County.

Coupons must accompany the purchase of the meal. The coupons are available at the shelter or at under "Upcoming Events."

The hours of operation for Texas Roadhouse are 4 to 10 p.m.

The restaurant's life-size armadillo mascot, Andy, will be on hand at least one of the days.
