The Hodges

James "Jim" and Mary Jane Hodges of Mercersburg, Pa., celebrated their 65th anniversary on May 13, 2009. They were surprised with a party, which was given by their children and grandchildren. It was attended by 28 guests.

Mr. Hodges was a pastor/evangelist since he was 18 years old.

Mrs. Hodges was a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II and later worked in electronics, and was a housewife.

They have two children, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Shiveses

Bob and Sylvia Shives of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary March 28, 2009, with a family dinner at Dutch's Daughter restaurant in Frederick, Md. Their daughter, Sharri Hammond and friend Cole Cadigan hosted the dinner.

The Shiveses were married March 26, 1959, at the Presbyterian Church in Hancock by the Rev. Reuben Sulc. They renewed their vows in June 2006 in the Stadt Kirche (City Church of Martin Luther) in Wittenberg, Germany, in a ceremony conducted by the Rev. Keith Loesch of Woodbridge, Va. Loesch is a former pastor of Concordia Lutheran Church in Hagerstown where the Shiveses are members.


Mrs. Shives taught home economics, nutrition education and culinary arts in the Washington County school system. She retired in 1994 after 30 years of service.

Mr. Shives is retired from Fort Ritchie where he worked as a civilian for the United States Army in information technology for more than 30 years. He raises Christmas trees on the family farm near Hancock.

The Shiveses have a son, Mark and wife Michelle and two grandsons who live in Tulsa, Okla.

They have one step-grandaughter.
