Suns top Shorebirds, 5-3

The Hagerstown Suns scored three runs in the fourth inning on four singles, a walk and an RBI groundout to take the lead en route to a 5-3 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Friday night in a South Atlantic League game at Municipal Stadium.

Michael Guerrero and Sandy Leon led off the fourth with singles, with Guerrero beating a throw to third base and Leon taking second on the play. Chris Curran followed with a groundout to short to score Guerrero and tie the game at 3.

With two outs, Stephen Lombardozzi walked before Derek Norris and Tyler Moore hit RBI singles to give the Suns the 5-3 lead.

Five Hagerstown relievers -- Austin Garrett, Justin Phillabaum, Patrick Arnold, Carlos Peralta and Osvaldo Rodriguez -- combined to hold Delmarva scoreless over the final six innings.

Garrett got the win with two innings of one-hit work, and Rodriguez notched his 10th save by pitching the ninth, striking out two and stranding two runners.

Delmarva took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on two singles, a walk and a passed ball. Hagerstown tied it at 2 in the bottom half without a hit, using an error, a hit batter, a walk, a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch to tie the game.

The Shorebirds took a 3-2 lead in the third on Ronnie Welty's leadoff home run.
