WILLIAMSPORT -- Glenna Pauline (Garrett) Sommers, 93, of 154 N. Artizan St., died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Williamsport Retirement Village.

Born Feb. 23, 1916, in Inkerman, Hardy County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Westfall and Margie Ann (Tusing) Garrett.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Henry George Sommers, whom she married Jan. 10, 1961, and formerly lived at 305 W. Colonial Drive, Apt. D, in Hagerstown, Md.

She also was preceded in death by a young brother, Paul, and a brother, Charles Dutton Garrett.

She and her late husband loved to dance and travel.

She is survived by a number of cousins and a nephew.

A son, William Reginold Townsend, was born Nov. 6, 1948, in Elmira, N.Y., from a previous marriage.

She was a laboratory technician and retired in 1970.

She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Hagerstown.


Services will be Friday, June 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Stephen Hook officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Rest Haven Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
