A Hagerstown man was charged Thursday with manufacturing counterfeit money after Hagerstown Police Department officers and U.S. Secret Service agents executed a search warrant at his residence, according to a Hagerstown Police Department press release.
John Robert Scott Jr., 33, of 306 S. Locust St., was charged with manufacturing of counterfeit United States currency with intent to defraud and knowingly possessing forged, counterfeited and altered United States currency with intent to defraud, Sgt. Paul Kifer said.
The counterfeit manufacturing charge carries a possible punishment of 10 years in jail and a $10,000 fine, Kifer said.
Investigators searched Scott's residence after counterfeit money was passed throughout Hagerstown, Kifer said. Investigators learned people in the house allegedly were making fake bills, he said.
