June 10, 2009

LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- Steven Souza doubled and scored the winning run in the top of the 11th inning to lead the Hagerstown Suns to a 3-1 victory over the Lakewood BlueClaws in the South Atlantic League on Wednesday.

With the score tied at 1, Souza led off the 11th with a line-drive double to left off Lakewood reliever Ryan Bergh (3-3), who held the Suns hitless in the ninth and 10th innings.

Souza moved to third on Charlie Fermaint's sacrifice bunt, then scored on Michael Guerrero's base hit.

Guerrero took second on a fielder's choice and scored on Chris Curran's single off Ryan Ariail to give the Suns a 3-1 edge.

Carlos Peralta retired the BlueClaws in order in the bottom of the 11th for his third save.

Suns starter Brad Peacock and Lakewood starter Jason Knapp each allowed four hits in seven scoreless innings before giving way to their bullpens.
