He was a member of Engineers Local 37 and Teamsters Local 992.
Charles took pride in his work, his home and being a longtime New York Yankee fan. He enjoyed traveling and visiting historic places of interest.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty J. Bowman; one daughter, Patricia K. Anthony of Waynesboro, Pa.; one son, Terry L. Bowman of Hagerstown; a sister-in-law, Jane Bowman of Boonsboro; three grandchildren, Stacey L. Jarcy, Tara L. Ellis, and William T. Bowman; and three great-grandchildren, Nate, Maddie and Camryn.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Lewis E. Bowman and Ira G. Bowman.
Graveside services will be Friday, June 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Boonsboro Cemetery with Pastor James Murr officiating.
The Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the convenience of family and friends, although the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 11.
