Flag Day ceremony to be held Friday

The City of Hagerstown will host a Flag Day ceremony at University Plaza in downtown Hagerstown Friday, beginning at noon. The public is invited to attend. The event will be broadcast on Flag Day, which is June 14, on Antietam Cable Channel 6 at noon, 4 and 7 p.m.

Summer concert series begins at City Park

The Municipal Band Concert Series gets under way Sunday at Hagerstown City Park. The Hagerstown Municipal Band will perform Sunday and each Sunday during the summer at the Peter Buys bandshell. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 301-739-8577, ext. 169.

Movie festival begins June 16

The free family film festival at Regal Cinemas at Valley Mall begins Tuesday, June 16. Children and families can watch movies for free on designated dates and times.


The movies featured for this summer are: "The Tale of Despereaux," "Inkheart," "The Spiderwick Chronicles," "Mr. Bean's Holiday," "Kit Kittredge," "Madagascar 2," "Horton Hears a Who," "Space Chimps," "Alvin and the Chipmunks," "Kung Fu Panda," "Everyone's Hero," "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium," "Barnyard," "Charlotte's Web," "Monster House" and "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A Veggie Tales Movie."

Fundraiser planned for Williamsport students

Barefoot Bernie's Bar and Grill and the Williamsport Blue Band Boosters are holding a fundraiser for Williamsport High School students Josh Forsythe and Katie Stains.

The fundraiser will be held at Barefoot Bernie's from June 22 to 25. The restaurant will donate 10 percent of the bill (minus taxes and alcohol) to the students.

The restaurant is at 901 Dual Highway in Hagerstown.

Josh and Katie have been battling cancer.

Josh is member of the Blue Band.

The money raised will be split between Josh and Katie and will be used to cover mounting medical expenses. Just mention to the server that you are there for the Josh and Katie fundraiser.
