HALFWAY - Stephen Garry Thomas, 56, of Halfway, passed away Friday, June 5, 2009, at his home.

Born Nov. 30, 1952, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clifford and Frances (Smith) Thomas.

Following his graduation at South Hagerstown High School in 1970, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He was employed at Sino Swearingen Aircraft Corp. in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Stephen was a member of Williamsport Harley Owners Group and the Izaak Walton League. He was an active supporter of the POW/MIA issue and enjoyed woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelsy Lynn Thomas, in 2007.

He is survived by a son, Clayton L. Thomas of Chewsville; a brother, Edwin A. Thomas and wife, Jane, of Oreland, Pa.; an aunt, Norma Musey of Hagerstown; a granddaughter, Taniyah Thomas of Funkstown; his lifelong friend, David Rice of Halfway; and many other relatives.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Maryland State Honor Guard.

Friends will be received Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
