Mail Call

June 09, 2009

"I'm calling about the TV situation. The switch-over I feel is really a big scam. I am going to get exactly four stations. I don't feel I'm switching to anything fantastic. I think it's one of the biggest scams ever pulled on the American public."

- Hagerstown

"I would like to thank the young gentleman in Frederick who traveled all the way from Frederick to Williamsport to hand-deliver my daughter's wallet with everything intact. I greatly appreciate it and it does reaffirm that there are good people still in this world. Thank you very much and my daughter thanks you, too. God bless."

- Falling Waters, W.Va.

"I would just like to know where all the blind services are, for people who've recently gone blind. I've called several places and can't find anyone. Is there anybody out there who can help me?"

- Hagerstown

"Righteousness exalts a nation, but Obama is a reproach."

"The reason that sports teams like the Yankees and the Cowboys have so many fans nationwide is because they have winning traditions. It is more difficult to support a local team that finishes at or near the bottom every year. I believe it is a character flaw to be unable to stick with a local team through thick and thin."

- Keedysville

"Could someone please fix the scoreboard at the Colt League ball field? Don't know who's responsible for that, but could they please get it fixed?"

- Hagerstown

"I must be missing something. GM and Chrysler intend to save money by reducing the number of dealerships; i.e., fewer people selling their products. By extension, would it not then make sense to lower the cost of pharmaceuticals by closing pharmacies and the cost of food by closing grocery stores?"

- Smithsburg

"You know, while the rest of you guys in the world, especially people over in the U.S., think that Obama is the greatest thing that's ever lived in history of mankind, I'm not so fooled, and there are a lot of people out there like me who are smart enough to recognize it. Anyways, his all-time historic speech over in Cairo in Egypt, you know, trying to get the U.S. closer to Islam and everything, all he did was weaken the U.S."

- Maugansville

"Regarding the person around Mount Lena who is throwing yellow hair stuff spray or dye on the black cat with (white) paws, it's very nice of someone to call Mail Call and tell everyone about it, but the thing to do is call the police or the humane society. The cat's never gonna survive licking that stuff off."

- Hagerstown

"I was reading in here about a lady from Williamsport saying that, you know, it's basically OK to get an abortion, this isn't the Middle Ages. Well, that's wrong, because there is a fetus, regardless. When there's conception, there's a fetus, and that is killing a life. ... Now I understand that people have abortions, and I don't condemn anybody that does, but anyways, to that woman in Williamsport, I love you, God bless you, but that's wrong."

- Hagerstown

"Well, I hope the people of the U.S. are happy. President Obama is probably the worst president we've ever had in our life. ... He is changing his strategy on everything now that he has become president. ... We would have been better off with John McCain than we are with President Obama."

- Hagerstown

"I'm calling in concerning the calls that are anti-abortion. Most of the people complain about how we kill innocent babies, but the same people never try to take care of the babies that are already born to crack-addicted mothers and others that don't take care of them. They let them suffer for years under abusive situations. So they care that they're born, but they don't care what happens to them after they're born."

- Hagerstown

"School is now out for the summer vacation. If someone in the county sheriff's office doesn't get someone out on Harpers Ferry Road to slow down the traffic, a child just might get hit, injured or killed. This would be a tragedy and it could be stopped. They travel entirely too fast. It's 35 mph. They go 50 to 60 mph, especially in the morning and the evening. It's time to slow down and watch our children."

- Sharpsburg

"I would just like to make a comment on the lazy, lazy people that refuse to return their shopping carts to the designated area in a parking lot. Sometimes it's just steps away to the designated area and they still won't do it. Consider it as some exercise. Some may lose a little weight."

- Washington County

"I do hope Chris Shank runs against Don Munson for the Senate seat in the next election. Chris will get beaten, will be without a seat in Annapolis, and we will get a break from his political grandstanding."

- Beaver Creek

"As if it wasn't bad enough that the Obama justice department overruled career prosecutors ... now they deny the state of Georgia the right to require voters to provide proof of citizenship. What next?"

- Smithsburg
