Colleen Cashell, executive director for USDA's Farm Service Agency in Washington County, has announced farmer candidate nominations begin June 15 for local Farm Service Agency county committees.
The nomination period continues until Aug. 3. Elections will take place this fall.
To be eligible to serve on a committee, a person must participate or cooperate in a program administered by FSA, be eligible to vote in a county committee election and live in the local administrative area in which the person is a candidate. This year's election is being held for area No. 1, which is all of the county west of Interstate 81. The incumbent committee member for area No. 1, David Roth, has served three consecutive terms and is ineligible to serve another term.
Poducers can nominate themselves, and organizations representing minority and women can also nominate candidates. To become a nominee, eligible individuals must sign form FSA-669A.
