WILLIAMSPORT - Tickets are still available for the Williamsport Rotary Club's 25th charter anniversary, set for June 17 at the Academy Theater in Hagerstown.

Dr. Richard Young, the club's first president and still an active member, will be the master of ceremonies. The event will feature dinner catered by Applause Catering and an awards presentation.

"A number of special guests are expected to attend the event," said Rotarian Jeff Cline.

Founded June 18, 1984, the Williamsport Rotary met at a Hagerstown restaurant before moving to the Williamsport American Legion and then to Homewood Retirement Center.

The Williamsport Rotary has continued the tradition of helping fund international projects over the years, including the fight to end polio.

One of the group's first service projects included purchasing 100 infant car seats for new parents in response to a new law that required parents to secure their newborns in a car seat upon hospital discharge.

Recent local projects include Williamsport playground equipment, Williamsport Food Bank, Rotary Youth Leadership Scholarships and the founding of a Rotary Inneract Club at Williamsport High School.

The Williamsport Rotary meets every Wednesday for breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Improved Order of Red Men, Conococheague Tribe 84, on Lappans Road.

Former members, past presidents and other interested parties wishing to attend may contact Cline, charter dinner committee chairman, at 301-331-0383 or via e-mail at
