Norris, Frias named to SAL All-Star game

June 09, 2009

Derek Norris is quietly having a pretty good year.

Now the Hagerstown Suns catcher will have a chance to prove it to a captive audience.

Norris was voted to be the starting catcher for the Northern Division in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game on June 23 at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, W.Va. Starting pitcher Marcos Frias will be Hagerstown's only other representative.

Norris is the top run producer in the SAL with 43 RBIs, six better than the second-most productive hitter in the league, and is tied for the league lead with 12 home runs. He is in the top five in seven other offensive categories. He hit .370 with eight homers and 29 RBIs in May.

Frias began the season as the Suns' No. 5 starter but is 4-1 in 10 appearances, including nine starts, with a 2.31 ERA, which is fourth in the league. He has 48 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings.
