BlueClaws blank Suns

LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- Three Lakewood pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout as the BlueClaws opened a four-game series with the Hagerstown Suns with a 3-0 victory Monday night.

The BlueClaws (33-22), who are in first place in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division, scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings off Hagerstown starter Jack McGeary (0-5).

Lakewood starter Jon Velasquez held the Suns (24-28) to one hit in seven innings, while striking out six. Robert Roth pitched two-thirds of an inning, before Brian Rosenberg pitched the final 1 1/3 for his eighth save of the year.

The Suns brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in both the eighth and ninth innings but failed to deliver.

Steven Souza had two hits for Hagerstown.
