Longmeadow, Chewsville Lions



The Longmeadow and Chewsville Lions clubs will provide the food stand Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon at the Antietam Health Care Foundation's annual Kids' Stuff Yard Sale.

The event will be held at Volvo Powertrain in the west parking lot areas and access will be off Maugans Avenue.

The menu will include doughnuts, country ham sandwiches, hot dogs, chili dogs, steamers, smoked turkey sandwiches, pulled pork sandwiches and coffee.

A local Scout troop will supply the drinks and baked goods.

The Longmeadow Lions Club will hold its regular meeting at Always Ron's Thursday.

The June 25 meeting will be the installation/induction of the 2009-10 club officers.

On June 1, TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 77 recorded a net loss of 49 1/2 pounds.

Donna won the Get-R-Done contest with a 3 3/4-pound loss. Shirley Knode led the program on "Our Weight Loss Journey."

Scoops and Wickets



Brook Lane will hold its Scoops and Wickets Family Fun Day on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at its campus off Leitersburg-Smithsburg Road.

The event will include ice cream, children's games, petting zoo, moon bounce, balloon sculptures, croquet and bocce ball. A silent auction will feature a table of children's items. At 12:30 p.m., there will be a live auction. There is a partial listing of auction items at www.brooklane.org. There is no admission charge.

TOPS 446



TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 446 members were given 10 ways to help them be successful in their weight-loss journey. Carol S. shared tips on how members can become healthier.

The chapter had a net loss for the week.

The group welcomed new member Carol P. The group welcomed Sue back after being off on medical leave.

Singing boys choir



Celebrating its 45th anniversary, Kantorei of Rockford, Ill., will perform Tuesday, June 16, at 7 p.m. at First Christian Church at 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.

The choir has performed on concert tours in Europe, Canada, Japan and Brazil. Concert highlights include classic masterworks, American folk hymns and spirituals, music of praise, promise and peace. A freewill offering will be taken. For more information, call 301-733-0144, ext. 5.

Women's Club news



The Women's Club will hold its House and Garden Club Tour on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The tour costs $20 for all eight sites or $5 for each.

Lunch will be served at the club on tour day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a cost of $7.

Tickets for the tour, which includes Plumb Grove, the Waddy Cottage at Homewood, Lehman's Mill, the Women's Club, the Weiss Farm, Truesdell's Brightwood, Valerio Home and Gardens in Chewsville and Lois Weil Kaufman's, House at Cherry Lane can be obtained by calling the club at 301-739-0870.

Football signups



The Washington County Junior Football League is adding two more registration days. The dates are being added due to the large number of interested players and cheerleaders that did not get the chance to register at Valley Mall because there was just not enough time to handle the large number of interested youth.

Registration will be Wednesday and Friday at the Nike Outlet at Prime Outlets from 6 to 8 p.m.

All paperwork and payment is due at the time of signup. Bring two proofs of residence (bills showing address), their most recent report card and an original birth certificate.

The league fee is $75 for football players and $45 for cheerleaders, which includes the league fundraiser. There are discounts for siblings. For more information, contact Becky Payne at 301-573-9985.

Vacation Bible School



St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown will hold Vacation Bible School titled Discovery Canyon from Sunday, June 21 to Friday, June 26, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The VBS is for those ages 3 through sixth grade.
