June 08, 2009

BOONSBORO -- Maryland State Police have charged the driver of a 2004 Buick with failure to stop for a stop sign in a two-vehicle accident Saturday morning at the intersection of Millpoint Road and Alt. U.S. 40.

Kathryn Miller, 61, was southbound on Millpoint Road at 10:40 a.m. when she failed to stop at the intersection, according to Trooper 1st Class C.S. Steffy, the investigating officer.

As a result, an eastbound 2000 Saturn driven by Karen Warner, 68, struck the Buick on the right front passenger side.

A passenger in the Buick, Catherine McKenzie, 74, of Chambersburg, Pa., was seriously injured as a result of the accident.

First taken to Washington County Hospital, McKenzie was later flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

She was in critical condition Sunday afternoon, and in surgery Monday morning, according to a nursing supervisor.
