June 07, 2009

The highlight of a Webelos Scout is to join a Boy Scout troop in their area.

The Scout visits different troops and joins the troop on an outdoor activity.

After completing several activity pins and completing the requirements needed for the Arrow of Light, which is the highest award in Cub Scouts, the Webelo Scout is ready to join a Boy Scout troop.

Pack 26 in Mount Lena held its Crossing Over the Bridge Ceremony April 6 at Veterans Park in Smithsburg.

The Webelo Scouts saluted their Cubmaster Meredith Plasterer and the parents assisted in removing the Cub Scout items and the boys put on a Boy Scout shirt and then the Webelos Scouts and their parents crossed into Boy Scouts.

The group was greeted by Scoutmaster Roland Sorensen and Senior Patrol Leader Daegan Stine, along with members of Troop 14.

Troop 14 presented the new Boy Scouts with a bolo tie.

Following the ceremony, the new Boy Scouts and their parents presented Webelos Leader Kris Shumaker with gifts of appreciation for her years of service as their leader.

Pack 26 is sponsored by the United Methodist Church of Mount Lena and Troop 14 is sponsored by the Smithsburg Lions Club.
