CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Rodney C. Swift, 42, of Chambersburg, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center following a series of health problems over the past few months.

Born Nov. 28, 1966, in Anne Arundel County, Md., he was the son of Nancy Taylor of Edgewater, Md. and Robert Swift of Elsmere, Del.

A 1985 graduate of Chesapeake High School in Pasadena, Md., Rodney served in the U.S. Army.

He was a diesel mechanic, working for D.M. Bowman in Williamsport, Md. Previously, he was the fleet owner and operator of Recovery Trucking in Baltimore, Md., and owner and manager of the former Swift Building Maintenance in Annapolis, Md.


Besides his parents, Rodney is survived by his wife, Jennifer A. Abbott Swift, whom he married July 22, 2007; two sons, Jay Whitcomb of Pasadena and Bradley Swift of Annapolis; 10 siblings, Candace Swift of Kunming, Yunnan, China, Deborah Swift, Jay Swift and Rachel Swift, all of Hagerstown, Mike Swift of Houston, Texas, Robert Swift of Seattle, Wash., Daniel Swift of Seaford, Del., Ben Swift of Long Beach, Calif., Job Swift of Rising Sun, Md., and Hope Gill of New Freedom, Pa.; paternal grandfather, Robert Q. Swift of Wilmington, Del.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Esther.

A memorial service will be Sunday, June 14, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Chambersburg First Church of God, 2230 Grand Point Road, Chambersburg, with the Rev. Earl E. Mills officiating.

The family will have a private viewing at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home prior to Rodney's cremation.
