Harry McDonald Barnett Sr., 77, of Hagerstown, died Friday, June 5, 2009, at Julia Manor Health Care Center in Hagerstown, Md.

Born Jan. 1, 1932, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Edgar Nicholas and Ada Barnett.

He was the husband of 56 years to Margaret E. (Russ) Barnett of Hagerstown.

Harry served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He retired in 1987 from the General Services Administration in Germantown, Md., after more that 30 years of service.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

In addition to his wife, Harry is survived by one daughter, Sheridan L. Holt, and two sons, Roderick L. Barnett and Harry M. Barnett Jr., all of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one nephew; and one great-nephew.


Harry was preceded in death by one sister, Madelyn Lockely.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Joe Fowlkes will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport, where military honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown.

Visitation will be Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
