WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Mrs. Anna Mae Covell, 80, of Walkersville, Md., died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of Alvie N. Covell. They were married for 54 years.

Born Feb. 25, 1929, in Walkersville, she was the daughter of the late Harry T. and Eleanor Z. Filler.

Anna Mae was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walkersville. She was a Sunday school teacher and participated in numerous church committees.

She was a 1946 graduate of Walkersville High School.

She retired as a bookkeeper from Ceresville New Holland in 1991.

She enjoyed baking and cooking, especially for the Walkersville Carnival. She also loved to travel all over the U.S. and Canada.

Anna Mae was a big supporter and loved attending Hood College and Mount St. Mary's University sporting events. The family wishes to express their gratitude to them for all of their kindness and support.

In addition to her husband, Alvie, she is survived by one son, Charles E. Covell of Walkersville; one brother, Melvin E. Filler and wife, Esther, of Walkersville; one sister-in-law, Bertha Nicholson, and her daughter, Ruth Nicholson, both of Frederick.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Elwood Filler.

A memorial service to celebrate Anna's life will be Monday, June 8, at 10:30 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, with the Rev. Mark L. Foucart officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

The family also will receive friends Sunday, June 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount St. Mary's Athletic Department, Hood College Athletic Facility Campaign, Saint Paul's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to a charity of one's choice.
