Express Employment Professionals

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Rachael Sheaffer, an employee of Express Employment Professionals and a Fort Loudon, Pa., resident, graduated in May from the 10-month Leadership Franklin County program.

Sheaffer was the recipient of the 2008-09 Mercersburg Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Franklin County scholarship.

The Golden M Co.

Michelle Boger recently was promoted to director of operations for the Golden M Co., where she will provide leadership, coaching and direction in the four McDonald's restaurants owned by the company in Hagerstown.

Boger started her career with the Golden M Co. in 1994 as an assistant manager.

Scott Levine, who worked for the company as a teenager and returned in 2007, has been promoted to supervisor.

He will assist Boger in the general management of the restaurants.

Penn State Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. - Marla Minnich, coordinator of learning support services at Penn State Mont Alto, received the 2009 Staff Service Award, which recognizes a full-time staff member for exceptional service to the university.


Semester honors also were awarded to Lauraine Hawkins, associate professor of biology; Rhonda Everett, maintenance worker; and Peggy Angelovich, library supervisor.

Jack Gaughen Realtor ERA

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Paul Gunder and Darrell Morgan of Jack Gaughen Realtor ERA were recognized as top agents based on their performances in April.

The honor is based on the number of new listings, sales and referrals; attendance at real estate meetings and workshops; and customer satisfaction reports.

Gunder, a licensed Realtor since 1979, holds licenses in both Maryland and Pennsylvania. He specializes in residential sales and developments.

Morgan also is licensed in both states.

Enduro Networks

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Ken Ober has been named director of sales for Enduro Networks, a provider of broadband and voice service in Frederick County, Md.

Ober is an experienced entrepreneur and senior sales management professional with 20 years of experience.

He most recently was founder and president of Ober Wireless LLC, where he owned and operated Verizon Wireless retail stores in Maryland and Virginia. He has held sales management positions with information technology and telecommunications organizations in the Washington, D.C., area.

Villa Maria of Washington County

The Rev. Christopher P. Moore, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Halfway, recently was honored by Villa Maria of Washington County for 11 years of service as a board member and three years as board president.

Villa Maria of Washington County, a behavorial health program of Catholic Charities, provides mental health and psychiatric services to all ages, regardless of faith or belief, and focuses on the underserved population of Washington County.

Waynesboro Hospital

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Barb Gearhart, a registered nurse at Waynesboro Hospital, received the Eva Stenger Award during the hospital's nurses week celebration in May.

The award is given annually to a nurse who demonstrates excellence in all aspects of nursing, including safety, quality and patient satisfaction.

According to a nomination form, Gearhart "has established herself in a role of clinical excellence on her unit. Her caring demeanor and positive can-do attitude are greatly appreciated."

The Spine Center at the Center for Pain Management

Dr. Steven I. Sloan has joined The Spine Center at the Center for Pain Management in Hagerstown.

Sloan has conducted extensive research and been published on the topics of asthma, the modulation of spinal cord pain transmission and minimally invasive techniques used to address degenerative disc disease.

He attended medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and served a residency in anesthesiology there and at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio.

He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the International Spinal Injection Society and the North American Neuromodulation Society.

Smith Elliott Kearns & Co.

Sarah B. Foster of Smith Elliott Kearns & Co. in Hagerstown recently earned certification as a professional in human resources.

Foster is a graduate of East Carolina University who joined the accounting and consulting firm in 2008 as a human resources assistant.

She focuses on recruiting, including developing and increasing the company's on-campus presence at local colleges and universities; leads a new staff orientation and training program; and serves as a resource in designing and supporting programs to support staff needs.

Floyd Fritz was recognized as the safest superintendent for April by Callas Contractors Inc.

Fritz has been employed by Callas for nine years.

Joshua Foutz and Frank Rhodes were named the safest employees for April.

Foutz has worked at Callas for almost two years, and Rhodes has been employed by Callas for 15 years.

David Pearson, a project manager, has received accreditation as a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) professional.

LEED-certified professionals must pass an exam that tests their knowledge and expertise in the principles of green building design, construction and operation.
