Schlossnagle set for super regionals

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Christian University coach Jim Schlossnagle, a Smithsburg High School graduate, is 250-118 in his six seasons with the Horned Frogs.

He'll be looking to make his first appearance in the College World Series this weekend when TCU plays Texas at Disch-Falk Field in Austin in one of eight best-of-3 super regionals.

The Horned Frogs (39-16) are the Fort Worth Regional champs, while the Longhorns (44-13-1) are the Austin Regional champs. Game 1 is Saturday evening.

Rams pitcher Reisinger earns All-American honors

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Shepherd University junior pitcher Kenny Reisinger has been named to the 2009 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II All-America Team.

He was an honorable mention selection.

Reisinger was 4-2 with a team-high eight saves and a 2.18 ERA. He struck out 41 and walked only 15 in 57 2/3 innings. Reisinger also topped the team in appearances (28), relief appearances (27) and games finished (24). Opponents only batted .196 against him.

Hearbreakers play for title

The Heartbreakers 18U Red and Black teams played for the championship of the Tri-State Thunder ASA Invitational Tournament last weekend with the Red team prevailing, 6-0. Both teams qualified for the Eastern Nationals in York, Pa.

Taryn Ashway, of Waynesboro, Pa., led the Red team with three hits, while Katy Bobbitt, of Greencastle, Pa., had two in the game.

The Black team finished 4-2 in the tournament. Williamsport's Kelly Beard led the team with a .571 batting average and was 3-0 pitching, while Hagerstown's Allysen Breeden hit over .400.

Run Through History on Sunday

The 30th annual Run Through History 10K and 2-Mile Fun Run will be held Sunday at Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. in front of Dunker Church, near the Visitor Center.

Junior football registration

The Washington County Junior Football League has will have two more registration days -- June 10 and 12 from 6-8 p.m. at the Nike store at the Prime Outlets.

Cost is $75 for players and $45 for cheerleaders, and there discounts for siblings. Participants must provide two proofs of residence (bills showing address), their most recent report cards and birth certificates.
