HANCOCK, Md. -- Charles Victor "Sonny" Clingerman, age 80, of Seavolt Road, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at his home.

Born July 30, 1928, at Sleepy Creek, W.Va., he was the son of the late Jesse and Flo Vann Clingerman.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army in Germany.

He was retired from Rayloc in Hancock, Md.

He was a member of the Hancock Assembly of God.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi M. Coonrod Clingerman, whom he married Dec. 24, 1953, in Hancock, Md.; two daughters, Betty Lou Seavolt and Sherry Lee Reynolds, both of Hancock, Md.; two sisters, Alice Boden of Pennsylvania, Pauline Barker of Hancock, Md.; one brother, David Clingerman of Hancock, Md.; five grandchildren; one stepgrandson; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Wertman, and two infant brothers.

A service will be held Friday, June 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Hancock Assembly of God Church, Pennsylvania Avenue, Hancock, Md., Pastor Don Preston and Pastor Robert Smith will officiate. Burial with a military graveside service by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in the Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Cemetery, Thompson Road, near Hancock, Md.


The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock Assembly of God Church, 431 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Hancock, MD 21750.
