Youth rally

A No Smoking Youth Rally will be held at the Tobacco Free Youth Camp Day Friday, June 26, at noon.

The event will be held in partnership with Memorial Recreation Center's summer camp at Wheaton Park.

Anyone who wears a Tobacco Free Youth Camp Day shirt or a No Smoking Youth Rally shirt will receive a special treat.

There will be free T-shirts for the first 60 participants. As in past years, there will be a "Win Mr. Andy's Money" contest. Also, everyone who brings a tobacco education book from last year will receive an award.

Stop-smoking class

The free tobacco education series presented by the Washington County Health Department continues at the Walnut Street Community Center, 24 N. Walnut St.


The next class, titled "Tobacco Prevention," will be Wednesday, June 10, from 2 to 2:30 p.m.

Diabetes seminar

The Walnut Street Community Center, 24 N. Walnut St., will present a free diabetes education workshop Thursday, June 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. Nurse Debbie Hilliard will discuss medications.

Car wash

Ebenezer AME's trustees board will hold a car wash at the Longmeadow Exxon (next to the shopping center) at 19348 Leitersburg Pike Saturday, June 13, starting at 8 a.m.

Freewill donations will be accepted.

Youth Day

Ebenezer AME Church, at 26 Bethel St., will hold a Children and Youth Day worship service Sunday, June 14, at 10 a.m.

The children will lead the service with gospel selections, and praise and worship dances.

For Our Kids' Sake

The For Our Kids' Sake bus trip is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, to Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom in Allentown, Pa.

Help the kids enjoy the twists and turns of the featured "mega-coaster," the thrill of the "Dominator" or just enjoy one of the many water slides by making a donation and/or becoming a sponsor.

Donations may be made at any Hagerstown Trust Co. branch. Account number 141518 has been set up for the trip.

Financial seminar

Washington County Free Library will host a free seminar titled "Outlook and Opportunities - Smart Decisions for Tough Markets" Wednesday, June 10, at 7 p.m.

Shelby Penn, financial adviser with Edward Jones, will lead the discussion.

Some of the topics will include the current economic climate, financial crisis, recession and politics.

Summer reading

The Adult Summer Reading Club will begin Monday, June 15, at Washington County Free Library. Be sure to complete a registration form and pick up a book review form.

You can read or listen to any fiction or nonfiction books. After reading or listening to the book of your choice, complete the review form for each book and drop it in the contest box at any library branch between June 21 and Aug. 13.

Reviews received each week will be entered in that week's prize drawing. Prizes will be drawn each Friday.

Anyone 18 or older is invited to join the club.
