Gospel concert to benefit art gallery

June 03, 2009

Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery Inc. will host a gospel concert Saturday, June 20, at the Bridge of Life church in downtown Hagerstown.

Doors open at noon and the concert begins at 1 p.m. The church, at the site of the former Colonial Theatre at 14 S. Potomac St., has been refurbished and has been the site for recent concerts, seminars and movies.

The concert will feature a variety of youth choirs from the Tri-State area, as well as numerous other performers, including Shannon Watkins, Abigail Nigh, Mia Hoover, Heather Gayle and groups In Touch and River Knot. The concert is sponsored by the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

"We are thrilled to bring together such a talented group of gospel performers," said Ron Lytle, gallery founder. "This evening will be a must see musical performance that the audience will remember for some time."

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $7 for students, ages 18 and younger. Children 5 and younger will be admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at the Visitors Welcome Center in downtown Hagerstown at 6 N. Potomac St. or by calling 301-791-3246. A silent art auction will be held in the lobby of the church. Proceeds will benefit the gallery.

The gallery was founded in August 2003 by Lytle and a group of professional artists. Its mission is to bring art into the community and bring awareness to the arts. CSAGI has community outreach programs at Nolan, Memorial Recreation Center and Elgin Station in addition to classes for both children and adults at the gallery at 4 W. Franklin St. The gallery has become a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and plans to continue to expand.
