I see we all survived carnival week unscathed. I hope the event was successful in its support of our rescue personnel.

BMS students show math skills

Boonsboro Middle School had a great sweep at the recent Washington County 24 Game competition.

The competition of 180 contestants was narrowed to 16 and then to the final four.

Boonsboro Middle School had four contestants in the finals of the seventh-grade competition: winner Orin Kuehl; second place, Nick Dougherty; and fourth-place, Greg Fiola.

Orin also won the competition last year, when he was a sixth-grader.

Library happenings

The Boonsboro Free Library has several exciting events coming this week:


o On Wednesday, the 2009 Summer Reading Club kickoff party will be held at 3:30 p.m. To register, call 301-432-5723.

o A free family movie night is set for Friday at 6 p.m. when "A Goofy Movie," rated G, will be shown. Refreshments will be provided by the Boonsboro Park Board.

o Finally, Scrapbooking 101 returns Monday, June 8, at 6 p.m. with instructor Tina Taylor. Registration is requested at 301-432-5723.

Pottery weekend

Coles Pottery's second annual spring sale and festival will take place this weekend. On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., Boonsboro's Allison Severance will open her home and grounds to the public.

She will have new work from her spring firings as well as handmade items by local artisans.

Background music will be performed by Cara Cline Price, flutist and pianist of Hagerstown.

The event is free and will be held rain or shine.

VBS planned

Boonsboro Bible Church is accepting registration for this year's vacation bible school titled "Son Rock Kids Camp."

Class of 1974

Body and Soul

Body and Soul summer cardio/strength and flexibility workouts will be held in June. Morning classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 9:15 a.m. at Benevola United Methodist Church, beginning June 16. 50 years of football

The Warriors of Boonsboro High School will celebrate 50 years of football this fall.

In an effort to commemorate the occasion, a special program will be published. The program will contain the history of the game as played over the years at Warrior Field. Pictures of all 50 teams, the three coaches, team and individual records and players' memories will be included.

Businesses and individuals are invited to place an ad in the program. You can purchase a quarter-, half- or full-page ad. The back cover is also available for advertising. The cost for each space is as follows: quarter page, $40; half page, $70; and full page, $120.

Dance lessons

Trinity Lutheran Church is offering an opportunity to "Dance With Our Stars." Local couple Kim and Tony Nalley will host four one-hour swing dance lessons in support of the teen team traveling to Jesus Justice and Jazz. A taste of New Orleans cuisine will be followed by an hour of swing dancing on the following dates: Thursday, June 4, Thursday, June 11, Thursday, June 18 and Thursday, July 2.

A light meal at 6:15 p.m. will be followed by dance lessons at 7 p.m. Singles and couples of all ages and experience levels are welcome, and childcare will be provided. Suggested donation is $10 per person for the evening or $5 per person for the dance lesson only.

Cash bonanza

The BHS class of 1979 will hold a cash bonanza at the Boonsboro American Legion Saturday, June 27. The event will feature music by the band SPIKE. The cost is $40 per couple, which includes cash drawings, dinner and music.

Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner will be served at 7, and music will follow.
