Hagerstown Community College held its seventh annual Honors Convocation May 14 in its Athletic, Recreation, and Community Center. The event recognized special awards, Phi Theta Kappa membership, graduation honors, Maryland Zeta Chapter of Lambda Nu for Radiological Sciences membership, and dean's list honors.
Following remarks from HCC President Guy Altieri, attendees heard from Judith Oleks, vice president of academic affairs; Judith Peisen, chair, mathematics and science division; and two students, Charles S. Umbaugh and Julie L. Weaver.
The awards were presented by Joan Johnson, chair, English and humanities division, and Dawn Schoenenberger, director, developmental education and adult literacy services division, and recognized by Altieri and the HCC board of trustees.
Winners of the competitive awards include Renee S. Thomas, of Funkstown, for the All Maryland Academic Team for Community Colleges 2009 award and The TCS Leadership and Service Award in Graphic Design Technology; Ira J. Redman, of Knoxville, Md., for the All Maryland Academic Team for Community Colleges 2009 award; Kathy M. Thomas, of Clear Spring, for the Alumni Community Citation Award; Andrew A. Smith, of Hagerstown, for the Alumni Association Life Membership Award and the Campus Leadership Award; Laura C. Bis, of Boonsboro, and Jocelyn A.
