HCC courses include field trip to NASA

As part of two of Hagerstown Community College's College for Kids programs, a field trip will take students to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

Students will experience a two-hour tour of the center's testing and engineering facilities, a computer visualization tour of the earth and planets called "Science on a Sphere," and a self-guided scavenger hunt of topics at the exhibit area at the Visitor Center.

The course titled, "Girls Exploring Engineering," is offered for girls entering grades six through eight.

"Discovery Science! Flight, Space Travel and Rocketry" is offered for boys and girls entering grades six through eight.

Both classes will run Aug. 3 through 7 from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at HCC.

Freaky first Fridays ghost tours scheduled

Freaky first Friday ghost tours are designed for adults and children older than 8.


Event is at 9 p.m. Friday, June 5 at Jonathan Hager House, City Park, Hagerstown.

Cost is $3 per person; free for children younger than 6. Registration is required.

Youth camp accepting applications

The Old Opera House's 2009 Summer Youth Camp will include workshops in acting, dance, stage combat, makeup, costuming, improvisation, scenic art and more.

This camp program for thespians ages 5 through 18 (as of June 1). Space is limited.

10 a.m. to noon Monday, June 8, through Friday, June 12, for ages 5 to 7, $65 per student, limited to 12 students

9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 15, through Friday, June 19, for ages 8 to 12, $75 per student and limited to 40 students

9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, for ages 13 to 18, $75 per student and limited to 40 students.
