Hello!

Welcome to June. Well, after today, there are only 1 1/2 days of school left. It sure doesn't feel quite like summer yet, does it? Nevertheless, in my house, we are happy the time has arrived.

Bester Elementary

The following students have been named Citizens of the Month for May:

Nathan Hutzel, Donald Allgeier, Natalie Rolea, Mariah DeVore, Trevor Custer, Da Quan Johnson, Melina Benlizar, Cassidy Bowers, Kyle Whitacre, Elijah Cook and Jason Keier.

Locust Point

On Tuesday, June 9, Neighborhoods 1st Locust Point will begin meeting at 53 E. Baltimore St. at the Congregation B'Nai Abraham synagogue.

The group will continue to meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.m. There is off-street parking available. The group wants to thank the congregation for offering the meeting space since Bester Elementary School is closing for the summer.

The group is planning its second annual block party for Saturday, June 20. The group will be discussing its fiscal year plans. All residents of the Locust Point area are invited to attend the meetings.

Bake sale

St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, at 1020 Maryland Ave., will hold a bake sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be pies, cakes, cinnamon rolls, apple dumplings and other baked items available for purchase.

Discovery Station

Saturday - Jay Frantz presents "The Thrill of Skydiving" at 2 p.m. at Discovery Station in downtown Hagerstown.

Golf tournament

The South Hagerstown High School Alumni Association and the Sports Boosters Club will co-sponsor a golf tournament Thursday, June 11, at Beaver Creek Country Club.

The proceeds will benefit the athletic programs at the school, fund scholarships, provide uniforms and a mentoring program at the school.

The golf tournament will start at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. It will be a best-ball format.

If you can't play in the tournament, you can make a donation. For a $10 donation, your name will be placed in the program and you will have helped a student receive a scholarship.

Entry forms are available in the main office at South High, in the pro shop at Beaver Creek Country Club and online at www.shhsrebelalumni/org.
