You can't reach your goal where you are

It's ironic how people want to change without having to change.

So many times I sit with a prospective client and hear about how unhappy they are about the way they look and feel, how much energy they don't have, and how weak they've become. I lay out exactly what it's going to take to get into their best shape, and immediately I get the list of "I can'ts."

Each "I can't" is usually followed by a "because" and ends with a rationalization of an unwillingness to get out their comfort zone.

Sound familiar?

All my life, people tried to tell me what I couldn't do. They told me I couldn't learn as well as the other kids. They told me I was too small to be in professional wrestling. They told me I couldn't make a fitness services company a success in this area.

Guess what? I write a weekly newspaper column. I have a successful history in pro wrestling facing some of the industry's biggest names. I operate a fitness services company that is growing despite a down economy.

If you know me, you know I'm not an extraordinary guy. I'm not especially talented or gifted. I'm an average guy who wants to do extraordinary things.

For that to happen, I know I have to stay out of my comfort zone, and never say "I can't."

"Rich Dad, Poor Dad" author Robert Kiosaki wrote that successful people replace "I can't" with "how can I?" Try it right now. What have you been telling yourself you can't do? Think about it again and ask yourself "how can I?"

Get rid of that list of excuses, and replace it with a plan, then execute than plan with the tenacity of a pit bull.

If you can't develop a plan yourself, have a professional develop one with you, then execute it without question. In time, your "I can't" list will shrink as fast as your waistline.

Don't forget to come out to the Live Well Expo this Saturday at the Valley Mall. My wife and I will be on stage demonstrating killer fitness segments showcasing our training systems. Head over to The Herald-Mail's Web site at www.herald-mail.com for more details about the expo.
