Ruth Anna Fields Fogelsanger, 73

WINCHESTER, Va. - Ruth Anna Fields Fogelsanger, age 73, of Winchester, Va., formerly of Chambersburg, Pa., died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Blue Ridge Hospice.

Mrs. Fogelsanger was born in Mount Joy Township, Adams County, Gettysburg, Pa. She was the daughter of the late Russel M. and Edna E. Smith Fields.

She was of the Protestant faith.

Ruth Anna was a graduate of Chambersburg High School, class of 1954, Chambersburg.

She retired in 1986 from the Chambersburg Area School District in Chambersburg, where she had been employed as administrative secretary and coordinator of child accounting for 32 years. She retired after 15 years as administrative assistant from the Franklin County Teachers' Credit Union, Chambersburg, in September, 2001.

She was a notary public for 40 years and a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Notaries.

She was also a seamstress, interior decorator, artist, and in the 1950s and 1960s, was a fashion model in the Harrisburg, Pa., area.

She married David C. Fogelsanger on Feb. 22, 1959, in Chambersburg.

Ruth Anna faced cancer the way she faced life - with courage and uncompromising good humor.

Surviving with her husband are two sisters, Rachel E. Boyer (Mrs. Harold A. Boyer) and Helen L. Trail (Mrs. Marshall W. Trail Jr.), both of Chambersburg.

The family will have a celebration of life memorial service at a late date to be announced.

Ruth Anna requested the omission of flowers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the local American Cancer Society, 2654 Valley Ave., Winchester, VA 22601; or to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.

Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, Winchester, VA 22601.
