Williamsport, Old Forge DI teams honored

Old Forge and Williamsport elementary schools' Destination Imagination teams were honored for their efforts by Washington County Public Schools Superintendent Elizabeth Morgan at a recent board of education meeting.

Morgan described what Destination Imagination is all about and congratulated the children. A representative from each team was given time to address the school board and talk about their team's challenges and accomplishments. The students were presented a Team Golden Apple Certificate and a Golden Apple pin.

Williamsport Elementary's Destinator Imaginators took third place at the Maryland Creative Problem Solvers Festival of Creativity April 18 at Towson (Md.) State University. The team included Emily Green, Megan Budnicki, Julia Smoot, Timmy Sparks, Derek Harper, Jordyn Truax, and team managers Sandy and Dave Harper.

The two Destination Imagination teams from Old Forge Elementary School finished in the top six of all participating teams at the state DI tournament at Towson State University on April 18.

The EleMechanix team placed third in the "Operation Cooperation" challenge and the Woodchuckers squad placed sixth in the "A New Angle" challenge.

EleMechanix team members are Megan Black, Seth Garnand, Tyler Linn, Mari Mullane, Samantha Pryor, Spencer Rubino and Nick Shirey. Team managers are music teacher Melody Wilson, and parents Dan and Andrea Garnand.

The Woodchuckers are Marisa Carson, Zach Garvey, Josh Geblein, Sydney Davis, Aaron Johnson, Julie Thomas and Quinn Wandalowski. The team is managed by enrichment teacher Emily Cilley and parent Jean Thomas.
