Banquet to kick off Railroad Heritage Days

June 01, 2009

The Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum will kick off Railroad Heritage Days with its 20th anniversary banquet Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Plaza Hotel.

The membership will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the opening of the museum as the high point of its annual Railroad Heritage Days, which take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

The museum was founded by members of the Hagerstown Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society and has operated in an old Western Maryland Railway building at 300 S. Burhans Blvd. since 1989.

The museum has been active in interpreting railroad history through its extensive exhibits and operation of model railways on the premises, and periodic rail excursion trips. While attempts to save the roundhouse and other structures were not successful, many artifacts and photos are available at the museum.
