Police communication operators honored

May 31, 2009

The five Police Communication Operators assigned to the Hagerstown Barrack of the Maryland State Police were recently honored for almost 90 years of combined service to the State of Maryland.

At the May 8 Public Safety Awards Ceremony held at Hagerstown Community College and sponsored by the Administration of Justice Program, the public servants were presented with a Commander's Award for their service.

Commonly called "police dispatchers," these civilian employees work rotating shifts and provide 24-hour coverage on radio and telephone, and are the lifeline to state troopers in the field handling criminal and traffic calls.
