Paint a patch of a giant sidewalk mural

May 29, 2009

FREDERICK, Md. - Individuals, businesses, families, schools and community groups are invited to participate in a community art project in downtown Frederick on Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Painters will paint a 10-foot-by-10-foot square of the concrete sidewalk along Carroll Creek Park. The theme, "A Brush with Frederick," is open. Participants may paint their expression of family, friends, great Frederick memories and the future of Frederick as seen through the eyes of those who live, work and play here.

After being on public display all summer, this temporary, large linear mural will then be covered over by a new walkway surface along the creek. But the mural will remain intact below the surface for discovery by future generations - much like a time capsule.

"A Brush with Frederick" is being held in conjunction with the Frederick Festival of the Arts. Advanced registration is required with a requested donation of $15. All proceeds benefit the work of the Frederick Arts Council. The festival of the arts will be held rain or shine. However, the rain date for the "Brush" event is June 13.
