Bank robbed near Charles Town

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A man took an undisclosed amount of cash Friday morning from the Charles Town branch of MVB Bank after passing to the teller a note demanding money, according to Jefferson County Sheriff's Detective Tracy Edwards.

No one was injured in the robbery that occurred at about 10:15 a.m. at 88 Somerset Blvd. in the Somerset Village Shopping Center, Edwards said.

The white male suspect has dark hair and a thin build, and is between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall, Edwards said.

He is believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, Edwards said.

The man was wearing a navy blue, hooded sweat shirt, a dark colored ball cap, blue jeans and black shoes when he robbed the bank off U.S. 340, Edwards said.

"He's only in there a short period of time," Edwards said.

After leaving the bank, he fled in an unknown direction, Edwards said.

Officers from the Harpers Ferry, Charles Town and Ranson, W.Va., police departments and the FBI responded to the bank but were unable find the man, police said.

Anyone with information or tips about the robbery may contact Edwards at 304-728-3205.
