Mr. Johnston retired from the Charles Town Police Department after 15 years, achieving the rank of captain.
He was a member of Crossroads Church.
Mr. Johnston coached youth football and was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948 of Charles Town.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carla Burkhart Johnston at home, married five years; two sons, Aaron Logan Johnston and Cameron Mark Johnston; four brothers, William A. Johnston Jr. and companion, Evonne, of Martinsburg, W.Va., Gerald Dwayne Johnston and fiance, Tena, of Charles Town, W.Va., Stephen Leigh Johnston and wife, Sandra, of Harpers Ferry, and Dana Lynn Johnston and wife, Victoria, of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; and nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Services will be Saturday, May 30, at 1 p.m. at Covenant Baptist Church, 7485 Shepherdstown Pike, Shepherdstown. Pastor B.J. Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
