Osborne Lee (Ozzie) Thompson of Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Wilbur O. and Ruth Head Thompson.

He was a 1947 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in Europe.

He retired from Pangborn Corp. and the State of Maryland. He most recently was employed by Turner Transportation.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Hagerstown.

Ozzie enjoyed listening to big band music. He and his wife, Shirley, spent many Sunday afternoons dancing to big band music at Pen Mar Park.

He was a member of Dixon Troxell American Legion Post 211.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley R. Stouffer Thompson; one son, Todd A. Thompson of State College, Pa.; and one brother, Phil E. Thompson of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Thompson.

Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. Graveside military honors will be conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
