BOONSBORO - Harry LeRoy "Bud" Toms Jr., 81, of 8507 Mapleville Road in Boonsboro, Md., died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 4, 1928, in Boonsboro, he was the son of the late Harry LeRoy Toms Sr. and Elizabeth Connally Leps Toms.

After graduating from Boonsboro High School in 1946, Harry served 18 months in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He then completed two years of course work at Hagerstown Junior College before joining the family business as a self-employed dairy farmer, a career he enjoyed for 40 years. He also had been employed by the Berkeley County (W.Va.) School Board for 10 years.


Harry was a member of Benevola United Methodist Church near Boonsboro. He also was involved in numerous fraternal associations, clubs and organizations, including Alsatia Club, Funkstown Lions Club, Elks Club, Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative Association, Washington County Farm Bureau, Washington County Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Committee, Southern States Feed Board and Southern States Petroleum Board.

He is survived by his three children, Harry Leroy "Terry" Toms III of Hagerstown, Stephanie Ann Duncan Troxell of Annapolis, Md., and Tracey Leigh Seabolt of Edgewater, Md.; one grandson; and one granddaughter.

A memorial service will be Monday, June 1, at 10 a.m. at Benevola United Methodist Church, 19925 Benevola Church Road, Boonsboro. The Rev. Sharon Bourgeois will officiate. Interment will follow in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.
