Maugansville students chosen for artwork

The Washington County Board of Education and Washington County Museum of Fine Arts presented a countywide art show for 2008-09.

Students in Washington County Public Schools had a sample of their artwork chosen for the art show.

The students' exhibition, on display at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, represents students in kindergarten through grade 12.

This show features work in a wide variety of media.

The following students were chosen from Maugansville Elementary School under the direction of art teacher Deb Geis:

Savannah Gafford, Kaylee Molina, Cassie Shelly, Emma Beal, Mya Rattay, Anthon Larson, Keri Scallion, J.T. Miller, Julie Hutzell, Drew Wallech, Alison Lee, Veronica Blomker-Miller, Eddie Horner, Andrew O'Connor, Jonathan Bower, Brooklyn Durboraw, Crystal Martinez, Collin Hutzel, Johanna Arcila, Tyree Jones, Hannah Hawkins.

Xzavier Bork, Haven Ridenour, Billy Hafer, Madison Carbaugh, R.J. Shelly, Hunter Rawlings, Madison Mertz, Gretchen Stenger, Arron Henry, Andy Lee, Tyler Simpson, Bradley Snyder, Kammie Noel, Jacob Kofoet, Matty Cannon, Christina Chen, Alfred Larsson, Milena Romanovich, Jesse Shaffer, Autumn Roberts, Kelsey Ross, Kayla Hall, Chole Coulter, Dominik Wolters and Stephanie Vicarte.


A reception was held May 10 at the Museum.

Seniors to meet

The Maugansville Senior Friendship Club will hold its annual indoor picnic Tuesday, June 2, at the Ruritan Building. The picnic will start at noon, and bingo will follow a brief meeting. Members are asked to bring place settings for themselves, a bingo prize and whatever food items they signed up for. Anyone who hasn't signed up for white or dark meat chicken, call Dorothy Smith at 301-745-6355.

Silent auction planned Saturday

Salem Reformed Church Youth Fellowship will host a silent auction Saturday. Doors open at 4 p.m. with food available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the youths' mission trip to Canonsburg, Pa.

School's Out festival to be held June 6

Maugansville Baptist Church will hold a School's Out festival Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The church is across from the elementary school.

The event will include a yard sale, games for children, face painting, food and maybe even some alpacas to pet.

Raffle to be held

Tickets are on sale for a summer celebration raffle to benefit Maugansville Fire Co. Tickets cost $1 or six for $5. Prizes include a new stainless steel gas grill, $100 steak package, $200 steak package and various hamburger and hot dog packages. Tickets are available from any fire company member. The drawing will be June 25 at bingo.
