Driver found dead in dump truck after Md. 34 crash

May 28, 2009

SHARPSBURG -- The driver of a dump truck was found dead inside the vehicle Thursday morning after it crossed the center line on Md. 34 near Sharpsburg and struck a guardrail, according to a Maryland State Police press release.

George Henry Plessinger, 57, of Needmore, Pa., was beyond life-saving efforts and the cause of death apparently was the result of a medical condition, troopers said.

Plessinger was found slumped over the passenger seat in the Ford 9000 dump truck, and damage to the vehicle and the guardrail was consistent with a low-speed collision, troopers said.

The crash occurred about 11:30 a.m. about a half-mile east of the Potomac River bridge, troopers said.

The dump truck is owned by P&W Excavating of McConnellsburg, Pa., for whom Plessinger worked, troopers said.
