Last Man's Club holds annual banquet

Williamsport Potomac American Legion Post 202 Last Man's Club held its annual banquet May 17. The event was in honor of those who have passed away and was hosted by president William Fridinger Jr., secretary/treasurer Ronald Britner and chaplain Arley Crist.

The following surviving veteran members were present to honor their fallen comrades: Thomas Allan, Glenn Bowman, William Byers, Dale Everitt, Robert Flora, Paul Hoffman, Nevin Sigler and Charles South.

The Last Man's Club was founded on Jan. 1, 1955, with a charter membership of 123 veterans. Today, there are 23 surviving members.


Family reunion

On May 16, the Rowe and Rhodes family reunion was held at the Williamsport Community Building. Approximately 75 people attended. Family members came from Florida, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas, as well as Maryland.

WHS class of 1959 looking for classmates

The 1959 class of Williamsport High School is planning a 50-year reunion Saturday, Oct. 3. The reunion will be held at the Potomac Fish and Game Club.

The reunion committee has not been able to locate addresses for the following classmates: Esther Boppe, Peggy Myers Harner, James Herbert, Penny Phillips and Virginia Sprecher. Anyone with addresses for these classmates is asked to call Glenn "Skip" Malott at 301-223-9181.

More information will be sent out to classmates in July.

Street fair and block party is Saturday

Rehoboth United Methodist Church is "taking Jesus to the streets" on Saturday. Everyone is invited to the street fair and block party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on East Salisbury Street.

Soccer meeting planned at school

There will be a meeting Tuesday for all incoming freshman boys and their parents interested in playing soccer for Williamsport High School in the fall. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the high school media center.

The summer league and conditioning schedule will be given out, as well as the various forms needed for the first day of practice in the fall.

Football meeting at WHS

There will be a football meeting in the Williamsport High School cafeteria on Tuesday at 8 p.m. All incoming freshman boys and anyone else interested in playing football for the Wildcats this fall should attend with their parents. The meeting will last about 45 minutes.

The summer passing league schedule and weightlifting and conditioning schedule will be given out, as well as forms required for the first day of practice on Aug. 15. Meet the staff, review expectations for the program and ask any questions.

Yard sale at St. Mark's

St. Mark's Episcopal Church yard sale is Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m.

Donated items may be placed in the garage in the back parking lot any day this week, or call Angie Sievers at 301-797-0816. To rent a table at the yard sale for your own items, call Angie. The church is at 18313 Lappans Road.

Annual yard sale for bands is Saturday

The annual yard sale to benefit the Williamsport High Blue Band and Springfield Middle School Cougar Band is Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the football field at Williamsport High School. The event will be held rain or shine and features yard sale items, bake sale, concessions and a fun zone area for children.

Fish fry at Calvary Temple

Calvary Temple will hold a fish fry Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. The menu includes deep-fried fish, homemade french fries, coleslaw, rolls, dessert and drink.

The meal costs $7 for adults and $3.50 for those ages 5 to 10. The church is at 147 S. Conococheague Street.

WHS Sophisti'Cats to perform Sunday

The Williamsport High School Sophisti'Cats "Salute to WHS Seniors" will be held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the WHS auditorium.
