Ivan "Jim" Gordon Hull, 86, of 335 Daycotah Ave., Hagerstown, Md., died Monday evening, May 25, 2009, at Reeders Memorial Home.

Ivan was born Jan. 30, 1923, in Sharpsburg, Md. He was the son of the late Nannie McComas Hull and Frank Hull.

Ivan retired from Pangborn Corp. after more than 35 years of service.

He had a great love for fishing and the outdoors. Ivan also was an avid reader and loved working on crossword puzzles. During his latter years, he loved going for rides in the country with his daughters, Donna Weiser and Jennifer Zeger, and son-in-law, Allen Weiser, to see all the beautiful land and mountains. He always told his family that everyone should be proud and happy to live in Washington County.


Affectionately called "Jim" by family and friends, he loved to share stories of his youth when he worked in the CC camps and then served in the Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He also enjoyed talking about his love for his hometown of Sharpsburg.

Ivan is survived by two daughters, Donna Kay Weiser of State Line, Pa., and Jennifer Marie Zeger of Hagerstown, Md.; four grandchildren, Melissa Elliott and Krista Havens of Greencastle, Pa., Julie Zeger of Maugansville, Md., and Timothy Zeger of Hagerstown; seven great-grandchildren, Bethany Elliott, Elissa Elliott, Lauren Elliott, Garrett Elliott, Danielle Elliott, Ryan Havens of Greencastle and Ava Rose Paul of Maugansville; and nieces and nephews.

Ivan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Jane Brant Hull, and beloved grandson, Eric "Ric" Brant Zeger. Ivan was the last remaining member of his family. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, Clyde, Bud and Harry; and sisters, Emma Kate, Blanche, Rosemary, Peg and Jean.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 29 at the funeral home.

The Rev. David Rawley will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
