Pleasant Valley Girl Scouts help out in the community

May 27, 2009

Junior Girl Scout Troop 733 from Pleasant Valley donated 20 sand buckets filled with goodies to the children who are hospitalized at Washington County Hospital.

The donations were part of the Scouts' Bronze Award project and were delivered to the Auxiliary Department May 12. The Bronze Award is the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can earn and requires her to learn the leadership and planning skills necessary to follow through on a project that makes a positive impact on her community.

The girls came up with the idea of "donating some fun" to the children when they began their plans to earn the Bronze Award more than a year ago. Their idea was to fill the buckets with items that would help to occupy the children and keep their minds off the fact that they are confined to the hospital for one reason or another.

Junior Girl Scout Troop 733 also donated lots of items to the Humane Society of Washington County May 12. The girls came up with the idea of donating these items for the animals after spending time on a monthly basis at the facility learning about the animals, their care, habitats and other information.
