Alton Henry Knight, 86, of 167 Chantilly Court, Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 9, 1923, in Ranson, W.Va., he was the son of the late Henry C. and Lena R. Ambrose Knight.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Lorraine Knight, in 2001.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater and Normandy.

He was an electrician and a member of the IBEW Local Union 307 for 60 years.

He owned the Liquor Locker for 20 years in Hagerstown.

He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 378, Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and VFW Post 1936.

He is survived by one daughter, Diane Franks and husband, Mitchell, of Ellicott City, Md.; one son, Darryl E. Knight and wife, Krista, of Ames, Iowa; two sisters, Ann J. Palmer of Richmond, Va., and Eva Harris of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Sarah Franks, Jessica Knight, Ryan Knight and Taylor Knight.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Winningham and Edna Smith; and two brothers, Homer Knight and Harry Knight.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided at the cemetery by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.
