Martinsburg man arrested on drug charges

May 25, 2009

MARTINSBURG, W.Va -- A tip about drug activity Monday at a local hotel led to a Hedgesville, W.Va., man being charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver cocaine and heroin, the Martinsburg Police Department said.

Don McAllister, 57, of 953 Tuckahoe Trail, was being held at the Eastern Regional Jail Monday afternoon awaiting an appearance before a bond commissioner.

Police were contacted by the management of a local hotel about drug activity in an occupied room. Officers responded to the room and found a woman who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, police said.

The woman, who was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in magistrate court, advised police of a second occupant of the room, identified as McAllister, police said.

Later, officers were told McAllister had gone back to the hotel and then went to the Sheetz on West King Street.

Officers responded to Sheetz, made contact with McAllister in a vehicle and searched his vehicle. During the search, officers reported finding approximately five grams of crack cocaine and eight grams of heroin, police said.

A search warrant was issued by Magistrate Joan Bragg for McAllister's residence in Hedgesville. Officers from the Martinsburg Police Department, West Virginia State Police and the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crime Task Force executed the search warrant at that location, which yielded a firearm and a small quantity of controlled substances, police said.
