Seniors honored



Two award assemblies were held recently in Washington County for outstanding seniors.

Senior Honor Night was May 14 at Robinwood Medical Center. Students received recognition for having more than double the amount of service hours required for graduation. Ninety-six students were honored, including seven from Clear Spring. They are: Kyle Downs, Jeremy Gardner, Robert Hockenbury, Lori Porter, Elliott Reid, Joe Repp and Malea Snyder.

On May 20, the Celebration of Excellence was held at North Hagerstown High School, honoring seniors graduating with a 3.7 grade-point average or higher. A total of 218 students from the class of 2009 achieved this honor. Those from Clear Spring High School included Korey Atherton, Lauren Belt, Katelyn Blickenstaff, Kyle Downs, Diane Draper, Christian Ernst, Joshua Green, Nevin Harshman, Erica Henson, Robert Hockenbury, Loudan Hoosier, Kelsey Hovermale, Amber Keck, Adam Lipella, Allen Mackey, Kirstie McMurray, Lindsey Mills, Emily Pinkham, Amy Poet, Zachery Repp, Megan Rhodes and Brittany Smetzer.

First child

 Congratulations to Paul and Amanda Brooks of Big Pool. on the birth of their first child, a daughter, Ava Grace Brooks, born May 14 at 6:43 p.m. The baby weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces and was 19 inches long.

 It is almost that time of year again -- time to go to Clear Spring Community Vacation Bible School. It will be held June 8 to 12 from 9 to 11:45 a.m.

The theme this year is "Son Rock -- Kids Camp." It will be held at St. John's UCC in Clear Spring. To register, call the church office at 301-842-2500. The Bible school is for ages 3 to eighth grade.

Did you know that the old Clear Spring Bank downtown was robbed about 60 years ago? The bank teller chased the robbers down the street and shot at them with a shotgun.
