Henry Clayton Bywaters Sr., 81, of Hagerstown, Md., died Friday, May 22, 2009, at his home.

Born June 5, 1927, in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Frank Newton and Lydia Isabelle (Hager) Bywaters.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He retired from Mack Trucks in 1987 after 22 years of service.

He attended Calvary Grace Brethren Church.

Henry's hobby was antique restoration.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Grace E. (Garvin) Bywaters; four daughters, Patty Miley and husband, Bob, and Sandra Baisley and husband, Philip, all of Hagerstown, Barbara Edwards and husband, Tom, of Waterville, Maine, and Mary Bywaters-Spielman and husband, Jerry, of Chambersburg, Pa.; two sons, Henry C. Bywaters Jr. and wife, Julie, of Hagerstown, and David A. Bywaters and wife, Debbie, of Anchorage, Alaska; one sister, Elva Flowers of Grand Blanc, Mich.; one brother, Frank N. Bywaters of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lydia Shubert.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Douglas A. Courter will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
