Mary Catherine "Kathy" Foltz-Needy, 61, of Hagerstown and Fort Meyers, Fla., passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, in the company of family.

Born May 3, 1948, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Thomas and Fred Foltz; and the adopted daughter of the late Richard and Hattie Mae (Brown) Kuhlman.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown.

She graduated from Frostburg State University and Hagerstown Junior College with a degree in sociology. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society.


Kathy was the director of special needs students and served on the human services technology advisory committee at Hagerstown Junior College for more than 10 years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Kenneth Lee Needy; a daughter, Stacie M. Beaver and husband, David Jr., of Hagerstown; two sons, Kevin Scott Needy and wife, Tammy, of Smithsburg, and Richard A. Needy and wife, Pam, of Hagerstown; and 10 grandchildren, Amber, Lindsey, David III, Erin, Logan, MacKenzie, Kayla, Stephane, Alicia and Jessica.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Chaplain Hare Varnon officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received Tuesday, May 26, 2009, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
