Memorial Day calendar

o Memorial Day services will be held at 11 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park at 17636 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown.

The featured speaker will be state Sen. Donald F. Munson, R-Washington. The Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 Honor Guard will present a memorial wreath service. Music and refreshments will be provided.

o A Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the World War I monument in front of 19 N. Main St. in Boonsboro.

Rusty Beeg, American Legion Auxiliary department president for Maryland, will speak at the 1 p.m. ceremony and participate in the 2 p.m. Memorial Day parade, which starts at Boonsboro High School and proceeds through town to Reeder's Alley.


o A Memorial Day program will be held at 2 p.m. in front of the Washington County Courthouse at 95 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown.

Hosted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, the event will feature patriotic music and a wreath-laying ceremony for veterans groups and any organizations wishing to remember deceased members. Organizations that want to place wreaths must call Post Adjutant Ruth Ungvarsky at 301-733-7676.

Speakers will include state Sen. Donald F. Munson, R-Washington, Hagerstown Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II and the Rev. Clark Carr, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church and a chaplain with the Maryland National Guard who recently returned from Iraq.


o The Mount Lena and Beaver Creek communities will meet for a Memorial Day celebration at 11 a.m. at Mount Lena United Methodist Church at 21234 Mount Lena Road. A light meal will follow.
